
Colts’ linebacker Darius Leonard is on the brink of a large pay day, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Pro Bowler is scheduled to make just under three and a half million dollars this year before his contract expires. The deal looming is expected to be a four-year extension, which would keep Leonard with the Colts through 2025.
The Pacers had a talented group of prospects on the court at the Ascension St. Vincent Center on Wednesday. Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert, who has been associated with the blue and gold in many mock drafts, headlined the group of four projected first round picks in attendance. Kispert shot 52.9% from the field and 44% from behind the arc as a senior with the Bulldogs. Stanford’s Ziaire Williams joined Kispert as the other potential frontcourt player to be taken in the first round. In the backcourt, Oregon guard Chris Duarte and LSU guard Cam Thomas were both in attendance. Duarte, similar to Kispert, is a threat to score the ball from downtown. Thomas is a scoring threat from anywhere on the court, however, his game tends to focus more inside the perimeter. Colorado guard McKinley Wright and Virginia forward Sam Hauser rounded out today’s group workout.
The Detroit Tigers offense got hot early on en route to a four to two win over the Texas Rangers. The bullpen pitched three innings of shutout baseball behind starter Matt Manning. Cleveland avoided the sweep from Houston as the Indians win in a close one, 5-4. The White Sox could not stop the Twins at the plate as they fall in the series finale, 7-2. Dylan Cease and Codi Heuer pitched a combined six innings with six earned runs. Michael Pineda earns his 4th win of the season on the hill for Minnesota.
The Chicago Cubs rallied late in the ninth inning for a second straight night, but fell in extras to the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-2. Eric Sogard had a pinch-hit double to tie the game at two in the final inning. However, after a scoreless top of the tenth, Yadier Molina drove in Paul Goldschmidt to win the game. The Cincinnati Reds’ rough day at the plate leads to a 7-0 loss to the New York Mets in the series finale. Cincinnati mustered only a single hit in the ballgame that coming from Aristides Aquino. Jeff Hoffman was charged with the loss, while Marcus Stroman picked up the win for New York.
According to the Cleveland.com, an informal media poll for Big Ten Football this fall, Tom Allen’s Hoosiers are predicted to finish third in the Big Ten East. Ohio State and Penn State are expected to headline the division. In the West, the Boilermakers were picked to finish sixth out of seven teams, only topping Illinois in preseason votes. The two in state schools did have a player each finish in the top ten for Offensive Player of the Year. Michael Penix Jr. (Indiana) received the second most votes, while David Bell (Purdue) was slotted in sixth. Ohio State’s Chris Olave is the favorite.
