Proposed noise ordinance talks continue

The Washington City Council discussed the proposed city-wide noise ordinance again last night.
Councilman Doug Compton proposed an outside limit of 80 decibels and an inside limit of 35 decibels.
A comparison is the 80 decibels is approximately the level of noise generated by an alarm clock while 30 decibels is the noise level of someone whispering.
A normal conversation generates 55 decibels.
Police Chief Derrick Devine said that for enforcement purposes the police would prefer only one standard rather than the inside/outside split.
Councilman Daren Lunsford said he preferred a limitation in line with other area communities with a 75 decibel outside limitation only.
A public hearing on the noise ordinance will be held prior to the next City Council meeting.
