The Washington Hatchets opened the baseball sectional at Southridge with a 7-0 win over Princeton.  Nick Sandullo pitched a gem giving up one hit, while the Hatchet bats connected on 12 hits.  Next up for Washington a rematch with Vincennes Lincoln.  Vincennes gave up a 3 to nothing lead and fell behind 4-3 heading into the 7th inning before coming back to walk it off and grab the 5-4 win.  Game time is 11am Memorial Day Monday for Washington and Vincennes, with game two to follow between Southridge and Pike Central.  The championship is set for Monday night. 

Loogootee opened the 1A Baseball sectional at North Daviess with a big win over Shoals 13-1. Loogootee will now play Barr Reeve in the semi finals Monday at 1pm, while the first game has Vincennes Rivet against North Daviess at 10:30am.  

In 2A at Mitchell, South Knox lost a tough one to Linton 4-3, while Mitchell cruised to a big win over Paoli 12-2.   

The Washington Girls Tennis team saw their undefeated season come to an end at the Jasper Regional Championship falling to host Jasper 5-0.  The Hatchets end an amazing season at 22-1. 

The Hatchet Softball team fell short to a very good Pike Central team in the 3A Sectional championship 10-0 at Washington.  Pike Central will now host Boonville in the regionals Tuesday night.   

Tommy Edman hit two home runs, and the St. Louis Cardinals avoided a sweep with a 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. 

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 behind a David Bote two-run home run and a pair of Kris Bryant RBI singles. 

The Cincinnati Reds had their game in Washington D.C. suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning due to rain, with the Nationals leading 3-0. 

The best kicker of all-time is calling it a career. Former Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri announced he is retiring from the NFL after 24 seasons. Vinatieri made the announcement on “The Pat McAfee Show,” hosted by his friend and former teammate. The 48-year-old Vinatieri is the NFL’s all-time leading scorer and played 14 seasons in Indianapolis after spending the first decade of his career with the New England Patriots. He won four Super Bowls, including two on game-winning field goals with the Pats. The three-time Pro Bowler also holds the NFL record for most field goals, consecutive field goals made, and games played. 

Notre Dame announced that Fighting Irish football games will be open to 100 percent capacity this fall. The decision was made in consultation with the St. Joseph County Health Department. All 77,622 seats will be available for purchase, and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said that the university is optimistic that traditions such as tailgating and the football player walk can resume this fall. Notre Dame opens the season at Florida State September 5th with the home opener September 11th versus Toledo.
