Congratulations to to Trey Reed of Washington who was selected to play for the Region Nine South All-Star team in High School Football.  Reed was one of 46 players selected among the nearly 150 players who were in the pool to choose from this year.  The 6’5, 210 pound senior stand-out will continue his high school baseball career next season at Indiana State.

Washington Lady Hatchet head coach Gretchen Miles was selected as the Courier & Press All-Southwestern Indiana Coach of the Year in girls basketball this year.  Miles led the Hatchets to a 19-2 record, a PAC championship and a regional appearance after a second consecutive sectional title. She has a 196-91 record in 13 years as head coach at Washington.  Joining Coach Miles on the first team were Alaina Thorne and Kencia Lavasseur.  Congratulations!
The boys basketball tournament moves into regional play this weekend.  In Class A at the North Daviess championship, the top ranked Barr Reeve Vikings advanced by knocking off Loogootee 56 to 38.  The Vikings will next play at the Loogootee Regional on Saturday where they face Trinity Lutheran in the semi finals.  Tip off is set for 10am Saturday morning with complete live coverage on the General 95.9fm / 101.3fm / AM 1580.  In the other semi final at Loogootee Lanesville will meet Evansville Day School at noon.
In 3A at the Hatchet House, the Sullivan Golden Arrows are the sectional champions as they topped Vincennes Lincoln 57 to 47.  Sullivan will now play Connorsville back at the Hatchet House in the second game of the semi final round on Saturday.  The first game will feature Silver Creek against Heritage Hills.
College basketball’s regular season wrapped up over the weekend, and a quartet of Indiana schools now turn their attention to their conference tournaments. Indiana is the 10th seed in the Big Ten and will take on number seven Rutgers Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium. Purdue earned a double bye and the fourth seed. The Boilers will play the winner of Ohio State and either Minnesota or Northwestern at approximately 2 p.m. Friday. Notre Dame is the 11th seed in the ACC Tournament and will play 14th seeded Wake Forest Tuesday at 7 p.m. In the Big East Tournament at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Butler earned the 10th seed
The team captained by LeBron James defeated Kevin Durant’s team 170-150 Sunday night in the NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta. Indiana Pacers forward Domantas Sabonis was part of Team LeBron and scored two points in 18 minutes in his second All-Star game appearance. Earlier in the night, Sabonis took the victory in the Skills Challenge. At halftime of the All-Star Game, Pacers rookie Cassius Stanley was eliminated in the first round and finished third in the Dunk Contest. The All-Star Game was originally set to be held in Indianapolis, but was postponed and moved to Atlanta.
Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson dominated en route to victory in the NASCAR Cup Series Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was Larson’s first win since he was suspended last year for using a racial slur during a live streamed virtual race. He led 103 of 267 laps in his fourth start for Hendrick. Brad Keselowski finished second, while Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five. It was Larson’s seventh career Cup Series victory and his first on a 1.5 mile track. The Cup Series continues its West Coast swing next week at Phoenix.
