The Indiana State Police is bringing awareness to a series of fraud cases targeting off-road vehicles. State Police has become aware of eight confirmed cases which have occurred throughout the state recently. Police say all the cases involve a person purchasing an ATV, side by side, lawn mower, or dirt bike over the phone. The suspects story is that they are buying the vehicle for someone else.
Each time they have had fraudulent credit cards and Driver’s Licenses. The suspect usually brings a moving van or rental truck to transport the vehicle. Police are telling local businesses they should be suspicious of over the phone transactions, especially if caller wants to rush the purchase. They also say it’s important to verify the identity of the purchaser at the time of pickup and be aware of fake ID’s.
If you believe someone has attempted to fraudulently purchase a vehicle from your business, please contact your local law enforcement or Indiana State Police Post.
