Jasper issues natural gas emergency

The City of Jasper has issued a natural gas emergency. Natural gas shortages are plaguing southwestern Indiana to the point that homeowners are being asked by leaders in multiple cities and counties to lower their thermostats this week. Snow storms that hit Texas and Oklahoma stopped up production at natural gas production facilities. Jasper mayor Dean Vonderheide is asking people who live in his city to lower their thermostats to 70 degrees or lower in order to cut back on natural gas usage. CenterPoint Energy, which provides natural gas to Dubois and the surrounding counties issued the request for cut backs this week.
