Washington’s City Council met last night. Washington’s City Council approved an ordinance rezoning a property on West VanTrees and heard the introduction of an ordinance dealing with flood hazard areas inside city limits. Dr. Darrell Deem had requested that the old St. Mary’s Church property be rezoned from residential to commercial.  Dr. Deem requested the rezone in order to bring the property in line with his business and allow for the construction of a second storage building on the property. The ordinance was passed unanimously.

The Council then heard the introduction of an ordinance dealing with flood plains and flood hazards within the city. Building Commissioner Jon Casper explained that the ordinance was similar to one passed in 1979, but Casper said the ordinance needed to be upgraded to bring it up to Federal flood insurance standards. The proposed ordinance will be placed on the City’s website. It will be up for final action in February.
