The Washington Hatchets lost a hard fought battle on the road last night at Loogootee 57-51.  Four players posted double figures for Washington in the balanced scoring attack but it was not enough as Silas Bauer and Peyton Bledsoe combined for 48 to lead the Lions . Washington will travel to Evansville Bosse in a make-up game Monday night.  The Hatchet vs Mt Vernon game scheduled for next Saturday January 2nd has now been cancelled.

North Daviess moves to 6-0 with a 46-38 win over Eastern Greene at home yesterday
South Knox topped White River Valley 54-34.  The Spartans go to 3-1.
Shoals fell to NE Dubois at home 63-45
Today is the big showdown at Carmel, as the top ranked Barr Reeve Vikings play the state’s top ranked team the Carmel Greyhounds.  6-0 vs 6-0 with the tip off at 4:30pm this afternoon on The General 95.9 / 101.3 / AM 1580 and wamwamfm.com.
In girls basketball yesterday, the North Daviess Lady Cougars moved to 7-4 with a 36-24 win over Eastern Greene.
North Knox topped Evansville Central in overtime 60-56.

The Washington Lady Hatchets have a big road trip tonight at Evansville Memorial.  Washington is 5-0 while Memorial comes in at 7-0.  Tip off is set for 8pm on Memories 107.9fm.
Fourth-ranked Iowa defeated Purdue 70-55 Tuesday night in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes got 22 points and nine rebounds from national player of the year favorite Luka Garza to improve to 7-1. Trevion Williams led Purdue with 14 points and nine rebounds. Iowa closed the first half on a 16-6 run to lead by 10 at the break and the Boilers never got closer than seven in the second half.
 Indiana begins Big Ten play Wednesday night at Assembly Hall against the Northwestern Wildcats. The Hoosiers are receiving votes in the polls after running their record to 5-2 with a win over Butler last weekend. IU has won five straight at home over Northwestern, dating back to January of 2014. Northwestern is coming off a stunning upset of fourth-ranked Michigan State, and the Wildcats are 4-1.
Indiana’s Tom Allen and Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly were named finalists for multiple national coach of the year awards Tuesday. Allen led the Hoosiers to a 6-1 record and an Outback Bowl berth and was named a semifinalist for the Bear Bryant Coach of the Year award and the Dodd Trophy. Notre Dame is 10-1 and will play Alabama in a College Football Playoff semifinal New Year’s Day. Hoosiers defensive coordinator Kane Wommack (Wah-mick) was named one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, given annually to college football’s top assistant coach. Wommack was recently named the head coach at South Alabama and is the first IU assistant to be named a Broyles Award finalist.
The Indiana Pacers open the season Wednesday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse against the New York Knicks. The game begins a shortened 72-game regular season due to a delayed start because of COVID-19.
