The Daviess County Commissioners met for a final time in 2020 on Tuesday. The Commissioners approved two equipment purchases for the Street Department. One was for a boom mower and attachments from Mower Max totaling about $217,000. The other purchase was for was for a Dump Truck from Truck Centers Inc. in the amount of about $177,000. The commissioners also heard from the highway department regarding the 900E project. The highway department reported that they had purchased all of the right-of-way for the project and that the paperwork has been sent to INDOT. The project is slated to get underway in May of 2021. The project will widen the road and add more turn lanes.
The commissioners also heard from the Daviess County Health Department. The commissioners approved the Health Departments request to receive a grant totaling $40,000. The grant has been awarded by the government to assist with distributing the COVID-19 vaccine.
In other business, the commissioners approved the use of Cares Act dollars to the County Clerk’s Office in the amount $3,074 for unforeseen election expenses. The commissioners also agreed to amend a previous motion regarding the delivery fee of a new public sign for the county. In addition, they also heard from Luis Santiago from the Perdue Extension Office. Luis gave an update and explained that one of their goals for 2021 would be to do more to reach out to the unheard population in Daviess County.
