Betty Lou Burris

Betty Lou Burris, 73, of Loogootee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday December 6, 2020 at Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on July 20, 1947 in Martin County, Indiana to Dolathe and Iva (Day) Adams. Betty was a member of St. John’s High School class of 1965.
She graduated from Vincennes University in 1989 with a QMA degree, qualified medical aide. Betty worked at Martin County Nursing Center while going to college and retired in 1999. Betty enjoyed collecting jewelry, doing crossword puzzles, and reading.
She was an active member of St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee, Indiana. Betty loved teaching 3rd grade Religion for over 20 years.
Teaching children and loving her grandchildren was a big part of Betty’s life. She was on the habitat board, Daughters of Isabella member for 8 years, taught bible school, and volunteered at St Vincent De Paul for over 10 years.
Betty was most proud of her family and loved them all very much, especially the grandchildren.
She was always there for her family… a very close family. She always said, “Family comes first.”
Her grandchildren will miss their Nana, her laughter, and her beautiful smile. Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She never met a stranger.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Dolathe and Iva Adams, her maternal grandparents; Valentine and Nettie (Mattingly) Day, her paternal grandparents; Guy and Blanche (Kelly) Adams, her brothers; Robert Adams, and Michael Wayne Adams.
Betty is survived by her daughters; Shannon Burris of Loogootee, Christie (Scott) Wilcoxen of Loogootee, her grandchildren; Bryce Wilz, Brandon Wilz, Chase, Cade, Conner, Cacia Wilcoxen, her sister, Mary Beth
Adams of Loogootee, IN, her brother, Bill Adams of Loogootee, IN, her sister-in-law, Patricia Adams of Evansville, IN, nephew, Mark Adams of Evansville, IN and many, many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 A.M Wednesday December 9, 2020 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M Wednesday December 9, 2020 at the church and continue until the time of service.
