COVID-19 strikes Daviess County Security Center

The Daviess County jail has been struck by COVID-19. According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department, a 37-year-old inmate was treated at Daviess Community Hospital for the virus on November 18th. The inmate was later transported to Deaconess Hospital where he died on the 25th of November. A name has not been released due to privacy concerns. An estimated 65 inmates and detainees have tested positive for the virus in addition to 23 employees. Four of the inmates were treated at Daviess Community Hospital and returned back into custody upon stabilization. According to Sheriff Gary Allison, the virus has left less staff for healthcare and kitchen duty, however, jail security has not been compromised.
