Congrats to the Barr Reeve girls Cross Country team on a fantastic season.  The ladies finished 7th in the 20 team field at the Brown County Semi-State (top 6 teams advance to State Finals).  South Knox girls finished in 8th place overall.  The South Knox boys finished 11th in the field overall in the boys race on Saturday.
The Barr Reeve Vikings are semi state bound in girls Volleyball after two shut out victories in regional on Saturday.  It was a four-peat for the Lady Vikings who continue to roll.  The Vikings cruised past North Decatur 3-0, and then topped Tecumseh in the championship in straight sets.  Barr Reeve is now 33 -3 and will move on to face Heritage Christian who is 31-3 in the Jasper semi state Saturday at 3pm.  The winner will head to Ball State for the State Championship the following week.
The Loogootee Lions are also regional champs as they knocked out top ranked Trinity Lutheran in straight sets to claim their own 1A Volleyball regional on Saturday.  Looogtee will play at Jasper in the first match Saturday at 1pm against Hauser.  Loogootee is 30-5, while Hauser comes in at 22-11.
High School Football Friday night:
The Washington Hatchets advanced to the semi finals with a big shut out win over Pike Central 50-0 at Hatchet Hollow.  Next up for Washington a road trip to Edgewood this Friday to battle the Mustangs. Game time is 7pm Friday night.  Edgewood advances with a 14-0 win over Brown County.  Edgewood comes in at 4-6 but have only won one game is their last six outings, the Hatchets also come in at 4-6 with their first sectional win since 2017.  Tune in for all the action this Friday night on your home for the Hatchets Memories 107.9fm.
Vincennes Lincoln also moves on with a 21-7 win over Owen Valley.  They will now face Sullivan in the semi finals after Sullivan advanced with a win over Princeton.
North Daviess fell to unbeaten West Washington on Friday night 55-14.  North Daviess ends the football season at 4-5.
North Knox is moving on as they topped Forest Park 59-15.  The Warriors will now face Evansville Mater Dei.
Jasper was eliminated from the tournament falling to unbeaten Evansville Central 30-7.
Josef Newgarden won on the streets of St. Petersburg in the IndyCar season finale, but Scott Dixon finished third to wrap up his sixth season championship. The defending champ Newgarden trailed by 32 points entering Sunday and needed Dixon to finish 10th or worse in order to have a chance. Newgarden took the lead from third on a restart on lap 80 of 100. Alexander Rossi led 66 laps, but crashed while leading on lap 70 to end his dismal 2020 season without a win. Newgarden finished second in the season standings, 16 points behind Dixon.
The Indiana Hoosiers are ranked 17th in the Associated Press college football poll, which was released Sunday. It marks their best ranking since November of 1993. The Hoosiers upset previously eighth-ranked Penn State 36-35 in a wild overtime game Saturday, which was IU’s first win over a top-ten team since 1987. Notre Dame fell one spot to fourth after defeating Pittsburgh 45-3. The Fighting Irish were leapfrogged by Ohio State, which won its season opener 52-17 over Nebraska. Indiana goes on the road at Rutgers Saturday, while Notre Dame is at Georgia Tech.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are one win away from their first World Series title since 1988 after beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 in Sunday night’s Game 5. The Dodgers scored two runs in the top of the first on RBI singles by Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger. Joc Pederson and Max Muncy hit solo home runs for the Dodgers in the second and fifth innings, respectively. Clayton Kershaw struck out six and gave up two runs over five and two-thirds innings for his second win of the Fall Classic. The series is off Monday, and the Dodgers will go for their first title since 1988 Tuesday in Game 6.
Monday night Football tonight, the Chicago Bears will battle the RAMS.
