The Barr Reeve Lady Vikings continue practice this week for the Mitchell 2A Volleyball regional on Saturday. Barr Reeve opens against North Decatur at 10am Saturday morning, while the other semi final has Henryville meeting Tecumseh. The two winners play for the championship Saturday night. The Loogootee Lions will host the 1A Volleyball regional Saturday as they open against Springs Valley at 10am. Rock Creek Academy plays Trinity Lutheran in the other semi final match up. Good Luck to the Lady Lions.

The World Series gets underway Tuesday night between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Tyler Glasnow will start for the Rays, while Clayton Kershaw will pitch for L.A. The 27-year-old Glasnow pitched parts of three seasons for the Indianapolis Indians before being traded from the Pirates to Tampa Bay in 2018. Both teams had the best record in their respective leagues and needed seven games to win their league championship series. First pitch is scheduled for 8:09 p.m. Eastern with coverage on Fox.
Mitchell, Indiana native Chase Briscoe will move up to the NASCAR Cup Series for Stewart-Haas Racing in 2021, according to a report from Motorsport.com. Briscoe will replace Clint Bowyer in the number 14 Ford, after Bowyer announced he will retire from full-time racing and become an analyst for Fox Sports. The 25-year-old Briscoe has won nine races this season for Stewart-Haas in the Xfinity Series and is already locked in to be one of the four drivers to compete for the championship next month.
Indiana University announced that tailgating has been banned in the parking lots surrounding Memorial Stadium, including the grass fields south of the stadium. All 14 Big Ten schools have adopted the tailgating ban for this season to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The ban applies both to the general public and to the limited amount of family members and staff that will be attending games. The Hoosiers open the season Saturday afternoon at home against Penn State.
Purdue football coach Jeff Brohm said that his positive test for COVID-19 was confirmed Monday and that he likely will not coach in the season opener. The fourth year Boilermakers head coach said that his brother Brian will serve as acting head coach. Brian Brohm is Purdue’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and Jeff Brohm said that he will continue to gameplan from home. Purdue’s season kicks off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Eastern against Iowa at Ross-Ade Stadium. The Boilermakers are 4.5 point underdogs against the Hawkeyes.
