The Washington Jr High Football teams hosted Boonville yesterday at Hatchet Hollow. The 7th graders remained unbeaten by knocking out the Pioneers 42 to 8. The 8th graders fell short in game two yesterday.
In the opening round of the girls volleyball sectional yesterday, Forest Park eliminated North Knox in straight sets 25-23, 25-21, 25-22. Forest Park will move on to face Linton-Stockton at the Eastern Greene 2A tournament Saturday in the semi finals. Tomorrow at Eastern Greene, Eastern will take on South Knox in the first match, while Southridge faces Barr Reeve in the second match. IndyCar driver Felix Rosenqvist will leave Chip Ganassi Racing at the end of the season to join Arrow McLaren SP in 2021, Motorsport.com reported Tuesday. The report comes one day after Arrow McLaren SP confirmed that rookie Oliver Askew would not return to the team after one season. Rosenqvist is in his second season driving the number 10 car for Ganassi and won IndyCar’s Rookie of the Year in 2019. The 28-year-old Swede won his first IndyCar race at Road America earlier this season. Rosenqvist is currently 10th in the point standings, and the season will conclude October 25th at St. Petersburg.
The Atlanta Braves held off a furious rally from the Los Angeles Dodgers and won 8-7 to go up 2-0 in the National League Championship Series Tuesday night. The Braves led 7-0 going into the bottom of the seventh before L.A. scored three in the seventh and four times in the bottom of the ninth. The Dodgers had the tying run on third base when Braves closer Mark Melancon (muh-LAN-son) shut the door. Potential MVP candidate Freddie Freeman homered and drove in three runs for Atlanta. The Braves have won seven straight games to start the postseason and will try to make it eight in a row Wednesday evening in Arlington, Texas.
The Tampa Bay Rays took a commanding three-games-to-none lead in the American League Championship Series with a 5-2 win over the Houston Astros Tuesday night in San Diego. The Rays exploded for five runs in the sixth inning and then made several spectacular defensive plays over the final innings to keep the lead. Tampa Bay escaped a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth and shut the door with two runners on in the ninth to hold on for the win. The Rays go for the sweep and their second-ever World Series appearance Wednesday night.
