A Saturday evening traffiic accident in Pike County led to the arrest of an impaired driver who had his two-year old son as a passenger.
According to a report from the Indiana State Police, around 8:52 p.m. Saturday evening, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a wreck involving a pick-up truck at the intersection of Pike County roads 1000 E and 325 N. The caller reported an adult male with a small child standing outside the truck. When Pike County Deputies arrived they could not locate the driver or the child. Indiana State Police and Pike County Deputies began a search and located the driver, identified as 33 year old Chaz Lengacher of Huntingburg and his two year-old son about a ½ mile away near a cornfield. Lengacher failed a field sobriety test and later tested with a .12% BAC. His two-year old son suffered minor injuries in the accident and was treated by Pike County EMS. The boy was released into the custody of his mother. Lengacher refused medical treatment. State Police say that Lengacher was driving his 1998 Chevy Pick-up when he lost control and crashed into a ditch. Chaz Lengacher was taken to the Pike County Jail on charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxcated, Neglect of a Dependent, OWI with a Passenger less than 18 years of age, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Reckless Driving, and Public Intoxication.
