The television ratings for Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 were the lowest ever. NBC averaged nearly 3.75 million viewers, which equated to a 2.3 Nielsen rating. The previous low was a 3.1 rating in ABC’s final race in 2018. The ratings were down as a result of a date change from the traditional Memorial Day weekend slot, as well as more direct competition, including a NASCAR race and the NBA playoffs. Indianapolis was the highest rated city, with nearly a quarter of local television viewers tuned in to see Takuma Sato win his second Indianapolis 500.
