Good Samaritan Hospital is encouraging people to be safe when out and about in the summer sun. GSH stated in a press release that being in the sun has great benefits; however, the sun can also have harmful effects if the right precautions are not taken. The start of the school year does not mean the end of summer. Taking the necessary steps to protect yourself and your family will ensure a safe, and fun time in the sun.

GSH recommends putting on sun screen 30 minutes before going outside and using at least SPF 25. They also recommend utilizing long-sleeved shirts and long pants or skirts when possible and say that wearing wet clothes offer less protection than dry clothes, and darker colored clothing is better than lighter colored. GSH adds that its important to find a hat that will cover your ears, face, scalp and neck.Wearing sunglasses can also help protect from cataracts. GSH says that its important to stay safe when out in the sun so you can enjoy it for years to come.
