Primary Election Day

election-2020-2

Polls are open as usual across the state with poll workers masked in most locations and cleaning machines and materials after voters cast their ballots.

Voter turnout for Indiana’s primary election is on the minds of many people. The coronavirus caused a shake-up in the way many voters planned to cast their ballots Tuesday, resulting in many people requesting mail-in absentee ballots. The presidential race is all but set, and there is no contest for governor.

In Daviess County there are two major contested races in County Commissioner District 1 and for County Council at Large.  Both of those are on the Republican ticket.

The Commissioner’s race has incumbent Tom McCracken being challenged by Ron Arnold.

In the Council race voters will choose three of 4 Republican candidates to be on the November ballot.  Incumbents, Kent Norris, Mike Sprinkle and Jo Ann McCracken are being challenged by Tom Schaffer.

On the Democrat ballot there are no local contested races however voters will be choosing one of 3 Democrats they would like to see on the November ballot for the 8th US Congressional District.  Democrats Ron Drake, Thomasina Marsili and Mike Webster are all wanting to run in the fall against Incumbent Republican Congressman Larry Bucshon.

Looking at the Martin County ballot, all of the local races are on the Republican side: For County Commissioner District 1 the candidates are Kevin Boyd and Cody Rousch.  For County Commissioner District 3 the candidates are Jon Richer and Aaron Summers.

Indiana House District 62 falls in a portion of Martin County and Republicans Jeff Ellington and Greg Knott are vying for that seat.

The only contested race that Democrats have to vote for in Martin County is that 3 person race for 8th District Congress with  Thomasina Marsili and Mike Webster all wanting to run in the fall against Incumbent Republican Congressman Larry Bucshon.

In Pike County there is only one contested race for voters and that is in Indiana House District 75 with Republicans Cindy Ledbetter and Michael Griffin running to be on the November ballot.  Pike Countians will also vote for the Democrat nomination for 8th District Congress.

All of the contested races to vote for in Knox County are on the GOP side with Incumbent Tim Ellerman being challenged by former Vincennes City Councilman T.J. Brink for County Commissioner District 1.  In District 2 incumbent Trent Hinkle is challenged by Pam Hazel.  The Republicans have two running for coroner with Mike Shieirmann running against Karen Donovan.   Indiana House District 45 falls in Knox County and Republican Incumbent Bruce Borders is challenged in that race by Jeff Gormong.
