A motorcycle rider died after fleeing police in Vigo County last night.

At 6:15pm  a state trooper was parked at the entrance to the Vigo County Fairgrounds when he saw a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on US 41 weaving in and out of traffic. The trooper started a pursuit and the motorcycle didn’t stop but continued speeding southbound.

The trooper, out of safety concerns for the public, stopped his pursuit at 56th Avenue while the motorcycle continued driving fast and recklessly until it hit a fully marked Vigo County Sheriff’s Department car in the rear.  The deputy’s car was traveling at a reduced speed in the passing lane of 41 South with emergency lights activated.   The motorcycle rider and a passenger were thrown from the motorcycle upon impact.

The motorcycle rider was taken to Regional Hospital and later died of injuries.  He was identified as 27-year-old Jack D. Beegle of Terre Haute.  His passenger, 28-year-old Brittany Marie Rose Waggoner of Terre Haute was also taken to regional and later flown to Methodist in Indianapolis.  The deputy was also taken to Regional, checked out, and released.

An autopsy on the deceased is being conducted today.
