City Council met Monday

council-meeting

The Washington City Council again met through a conference call Monday night with only Council President Alan Brown, City Clerk Treasurer Beth McGookey, City Attorney Tim Dant present and spaced throughout the Council Chambers,  The other members of the Council and the members of the Board of Works were all part of the conference call.

The only item on the agenda for the Council was consideration of moving the scheduled Election Day holiday for city workers from the originally scheduled May 5th date to the date of the rescheduled election on June 2nd.   The Council unanimously agreed with the proposal.

The only item before the Board of Public Works and Safety was the acceptance of a bid on the financing of 4 new police vehicles.  The bids were opened at the meeting two weeks ago and taken under advisement.   Clerk-Treasurer Beth McGookey recommended accepting the bid from Springs Valley Bank.  McGookey said the interest rate was the lowest bid at 2.389% and the overall costs of the loan were also the lowest of the bids submitted.   Springs Valley Bank also agreed to extend the financing date to July 15, with the first payment not due until March of next year.   McGookey said this was important because the City is not sure with the current situation if the police vehicles will be received when originally scheduled.

Mayor Dave Rhoads reported that, while projects are being delayed because of health precautions taken as a result of the COVID situation, that the city workers were getting essential business taken care of.  The Mayor said he hopes to get things up and running as usual as soon as possible and is waiting on Governor Holcomb’s announcements on Friday to determine the City’s course of action.   The Mayor also thanked Washington High Schools WHSH Broadcasting for carrying the meeting to the public.
