good-samaritan-hospital-2

Good Samaritan is taking extra precaution to protect patients, employees, visitors and the general public following the Indiana State Department of Health announcing confirmed cases of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) in Indiana. This is the lastest update on procedures being put into place at Good Samaritan.
Beginning March 16, 2020,hospital officials ask that non-essential visitors refrain coming to the hospital at all, including for the cafeteria, coffee shop and gift shop.
Access to Good Samaritanis only for visitors of inpatients and patients coming for health care service at these locations and times:
Health Pavilion
Monday – Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
 Emergency Department
24/7
 Cancer Pavilion
Open for oncology patients only. Patient will be screened and appointment will be verified.
Every visitor and outpatient who enters the hospital will have to complete a health screening assessment. The Visitor/Outpatient Health Screening includes six yes or no questions that include:
Have you had fever in the past 48 hours?
Have you had diarrhea or vomiting in the past 48 hours?
Have you had symptoms of a resipatory infection such as shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, etc.?
Have you traveled to areas with sustained COVID-19 (China, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Iran)?
Have you been in contact with someone with known or suspected coronavirus Covid-19?
Are you under 18 years of age?
If a visitor answers yes to any of these questions, the visitor will be denied access to visit the hospital. Patients who answer yes will be provided a mask to proceed to their health care appointment.
The only exceptions are if the visitor is visiting a patient who is at the end of life, or are the parent of a hospitalized child that is younger than 18 years old. In these cases, the visitors will be required to wear personal protective equipment to visit their loved one.

  •     Outpatients are only allowed to have one visitor with them at their appointments in the hospital. We ask that patients do not bring children under 18 years of age to their appointments with them.

  • Valet service at the hospital has been suspended until further notice as well, however a shuttle will still be available to pick up patients in the parking lot. Patients coming to the hospital for an outpatient visit, please be on the lookout for the valet shuttle for a ride to the door.

  • Good Samaritan is also suspending its Community Health Services screenings in the community.

  • Any hospital sponsored support groups and community groups that meet at the hospital will not be meeting until further notice.

  • Hospital officials are also urging those in the community who have a respiratory illness to first call their primary care provider on the phone to receive guidance on appropriate care. Depending on severity of the illness, the patient may be given guidance on how to self-treat at home or in severe cases to seek emergency medical attention.

  • My Health Live video visits can be accessed by visiting gshvin.org/my-health-live. Patients can also call a 24/7 nurse triage hotline to discuss their symptoms; the phone number is 812-450-6555. If care is needed, the nurse will direct the patient on where to go and what to do. A symptom checker for coronavirus is also available through My Chart.

  • Patients who have appointments within the hospital or at Physician Network offices will also be asked screening questions about travel, fever and respiratory illness. Those who answer yes to those questions will be given a surgical mask to wear and may be isolated from the general waiting room.
