State Police and citizens assist accident victim

Indiana State Police spokesman Todd Ringle of the Evansville post says two passers-by and a trooper helped an elderly motorist from Petersburg who crashed in Knox County earlier this week.
On Monday, Ringle says a 73-year-old woman had been driving north on State Road 61 when a wheel dropped off of the road.  Unable to get back on the road, the woman’s vehicle hit a culvert and went airborne and landed in a ditch near a driveway and then continued on coming to rest on its side.  The vehicle caught fire.
A state police sergeant was driving by seconds after and saw the burning vehicle and that the driver couldn’t get out of her seatbelt.  He took a rock and broke the rear window of the car.  A concerned citizen on scene used the trooper’s fire extinguisher to put out the fire.  The motorist was helped from the vehicle with just a scratch and some pain to the back and neck.
Ringle gave thanks to two citizens who stopped by to help the trooper.
