(NETWORK INDIANA) Sports gambling continues to grow in Indiana, and the state continues to benefit.
The Indiana Gaming Commission says Hoosiers bet nearly $178 million in the month of January, which is $16 million more than December. From that money, the state raked in $1.2 million in tax revenue.
Gaming analysts say 72% of the bets came from Hoosiers gambling on their phones, compared to 28% placing bets at a casino. DraftKings sportsbook was the most popular app, taking in $73 million in sports bets in Indiana. FanDuel was second, making $52 million in sports wagers.
Max Bischel, vice president of U.S. business for gambling.com, told Inside Indiana Business the numbers that will come in for February could be even higher, because of the Super Bowl last week. He believes next month will also be good for Indiana, with March Madness right around the corner.
