The city of Washington was recently awarded $700,000 in state grant funds for wastewater improvements.  The project will replace the wastewater treatment plant maintenance building. It will house the newly required chemical feed system along with new chemical storage and pumps.  It’s an unfunded state mandated project required by environmental departments.  They require the city remove phosphorus from the system.

Washington Mayor Dave Rhoads, former Mayor Joe Wellman and others attended an award presentation ceremony on Thursday to pick up the funds.  It was hosted by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch.

Also receiving funds was the town of Carlisle in Sullivan County.  $600,000 was awarded there for drinking water system improvements.  In addition, the town of Birdseye in Dubois was awarded $500,000 to build a new fire station.
