Due to widespread flu, respiratory illness and Norovirus, Washington Community Schools are closed today and tomorrow.  The closing was ordered by the Daviess County Health Department. Dr. Hosopple with the department says that protecting residents is the top priority even though he knows closing schools can cause a hardship for families.  He says closing the High, Jr. High and elementary schools in Washington is the best way to stop the transmission of illness.

School officials say the next two days of cancelled classes will allow school staff to continue to clean and disinfect buildings. School Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach..

As Dr. Roach said, Thursday and Friday (today and tomorrow)  are e-learning days with students using the e-learning portal on the school corporation’s website to access their assignments.  All of the Washington school buildings will be closed today through Sunday. That means any activities scheduled at the buildings will be cancelled or postponed.

The closing is for Washington Community Schools only.  All other schools in Daviess County are in session.
