In our final segment of a series on Protecting Our Children, WAMW News reminds you that child molesting affects all walks of life and social status and again is usually committed by a family member or friend that a child or family knows and trusts.  The stats are 1  in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys are molested at an average age of 7 to 9 years old.

Daniel Christie is a Detective Captain with the Washington Police Department.  Last week he sat through a workshop/training session on how to identify child molesters, how they target and groom victims and how to identify a child that may be suffering from sex abuse and how to report it.  Christie has been through the training before.  Unfortunately he says, the crime is much more prevalent than most would like to believe…

It is mandatory for Indiana residents to report suspected abuse. It is a misdemeanor offense not to do so.

The area agency that helps in all aspects of an incident or incidents is the Southern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition.  The director is Tammy Lampert
