Rita L. Ash, 89, of Loogootee, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Emerald Place in Washington.
She was born February 20, 1930 in Washington, Indiana to the late Roy Dean and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Holland.
Rita married John Ash on June 19, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 7, 1983.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a past member of the St. Mary Barr Township Altar Society. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul and helped prepare funeral dinners for countless families.
Rita loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She liked to square dance and was a part of a card club. While her health allowed, she enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ash; daughter, Linda Hays; son, Denny Ash; grandson, Dustin Ash; brother, Carol Holland; sister, Marg Ash.
Rita is survived by her children, Tom (Anita) Ash of Washington, Pat (Sue) Ash of Montgomery, Tim (Becky) Ash of Washington, Bill (Nancy) Ash of Cannelburg, Marijo (Charlie) Kane of Washington; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; brothers, Dean (Shirley) Holland and Chris (Faye) Holland; sister-in-law, Linda Holland; daughter-in-law, Barb Ash and son-in-law, Warren Hays.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
