Contract awarded for the final leg of I69

We are now a year a way from when work will begin on the final leg of Interstate 69 in southern Indiana. The project starts in Martinsville. The plan is to bring State Road 37 up to interstate code and turn it into I-69. That means closing 37 in Martinsville for ten months in 2021, something Mayor Kenny Costin isn’t exactly a fan of. He says he’s concerned some of the businesses along 37 won’t survive the closure. INDOT says a complete ten month closure is better than a partial closure, which is less safe and would take longer.

INDOT awarded Walsh Construction Co. a $165 million contract to transform six miles of State Road 37 into I-69 in Martinsville, which will begin in 2021.
