LaVonne Gray (Kathleen LaVonne Weisheit Gray), long-time Otwell resident, passed away on December 26th at Waters Nursing Home in Martinsville, Indiana. She was born to Frank and Edythe Weisheit on April 23, 1923 near Washington.

LaVonne attended Iva grade school and graduated from Otwell High School in 1938. She served in the 1463rd Women’s Army Corp from February 1945 thru October 1946 at Fort McClellan Alabama as a surgical technician.

LaVonne was married to her late husband Joe Gray in December 1948. Together they farmed in Pike County for five decades. LaVonne was an active member of the Burr Oak Traylor Union Church until relocating to central Indiana. She worked at the Jasper Memorial Hospital from 1967 to 1989.

LaVonne is survived by her six children: Karen Shinkle from Plainfield, Nancy Larsen from Plainfield, Ellis Gray from Otwell, Mark Gray from Owensboro, Kentucky, Betty Russell from Gosport and Erma Aish from Gold Canyon, Arizona. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. LaVonne sadly lost one grandchild and one great grandchild. She is also survived by brothers Ron Weisheit from Indianapolis and Fred Weisheit from Westminster, Colorado.

Viewing will be from 4:00 until 8:00 EST on Thursday, January 2nd at Harris Funeral with funeral services on Friday, January 3rd a 1:00 EST also at Harris Funeral Home 705 Walnut Street Petersburg Indiana.
