Church burglaries reported in Vincennes (Updated! Suspect Caught.

        Two churches in Vincennes were broken into over the weekend.

          One was at the Victory Community Church at 12th and State Streets and the other was the Vincennes Campus of Bethany Christian Church on Willow Street..   Stolen was sound equipment.

        Both incidents were discovered Sunday morning. The investigation is continuing.

In the early morning of Sunday, 12-22-2019, Lt. Williams observed a vehicle off the side of the road on Niblack Avenue with a male subject attempting to shut the rear passenger side door multiple times with great difficulty. Lt. Williams initiated contact with the male who was identified as Michael Gilmore. Lt. Williams observed two televisions in the back seat of the vehicle. Throughout the conversation, Mr. Gilmore appeared to be very nervous.

During the investigation, Officer Selby observed what appeared to be blood on the televisions. Officer Selby also observed Mr. Gilmore drop a sealed plastic bag that contained a green plant like material. At that time, Mr. Gilmore was secured in handcuffs and taken to the Knox County Jail where he was lodged with the charge of Possession of a Synthetic Drug.

Shortly after Mr. Gilmore was transported to jail, Officer Selby located what appeared to be blood on the inside of a door at Bethany Christian Church, which is in close proximity to the initial stop. Officer Selby also observed a shattered window as well. Officers gained entry into the church and began to clear the building. While searching the church, it was clear that the two televisions had came from Bethany Christian Church. At that time, Detective Alexander was called to respond and process the possible crime scene.

Mr. Gilmore was then also charged with Burglary and Theft. This investigation is still ongoing at this time.
