The Washington Times Herald reports that a Montgomery native has been awarded the National Commemorative Cross from Italy’s Defense Ministry.
The award to Sam Craney, a 2014 graduate of Barr Reeve who enlisted in the army reserves in 2015, was for saving the life of an Italian Special Forces team member when a vehicle exploded from an Improvised Explosive Device on a road in northern Iraq. Craney was quoted as aying he was only doing what he was trained to do.
