(NETWORK INDIANA)   The House of Representatives has impeached President Donald Trump.

Trump is now the third president in the history of the United States to be impeached. The House adopted two articles of impeachment accusing Trump of obstruction of Congress and abuse of his power in regards to a phone call with the Ukrainian president.

During the impeachment debate yesterday, Indiana Democrat Rep. Andre Carson said Trump also jeopardizes the security of our closest allies.

“Ukraine is a nation working hard to make its democracy stronger,” Carson said. “Make no mistake, Ukraine is on the front lines of Russian aggression.”

Democrats, like Carson, say President Trump withheld duly passed military aid to Ukraine as leverage to get Ukrainian leaders to investigate his political rivals, more specifically presidential candidate Joe Biden and his some Hunter Biden.

“President Trump’s actions hurt American diplomacy and undermine the integrity of our promises to hour nation’s allies,” Carson continued.

One of Carson’s Republican counterparts, Rep. Larry Bucshon, is outraged, as many Republicans are, about the outcome of the impeachment inquiry in the House.

“For over three years, House Democrats have been obsessed with impeaching President Trump,” Bucshon said in an emailed statement. “That is why from the outset, this sham impeachment process has been nothing more than a partisan exercise to influence the outcome of the 2020 election.”

Bucshon added that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not keep her word in that “she said the only way she would move forward with impeachment was if the case was compelling, overwhelming, and bipartisan.”

Wednesday’s 230-197 impeachment vote was anything but bipartisan with all but two Democrats vote in favor of impeachment and every Republican voting against it.

Of Indiana’s delegation every Republican, Rep. Jim Banks, Rep. Greg Pence, Rep. Jackie Walorski, Rep. Jim Baird, Rep. Trey Hollingsworth, Rep. Larry Buchson, and Rep. Susan Brooks, voted “no.”

Hoosier Democrats in Carson and Rep. Pete Visclosky voted in favor of impeachment.
