Sondra Sue Townsend, 74, of Newberry, Indiana, loving mother and Nanna, passed peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana on Monday, November 18, 2019. She was born on September 9, 1945 in Linton, Indiana, the daughter of Wendell ‘Bub’ Booher and Delores Gould. On September 20, 1968, Sondra married Terry Lee Townsend.

Sondra was a past member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary at Crane. She retired in 1987 from truck driving and bartending to become a full-time Nanna to her growing number of grandchildren. She continued to devote all her time and efforts into caring for her family full-time.

Family left to cherish the memory of Sondra includes: daughter, Amber (David Holloway) Townsend of Odon; son, Brad (Nancy) Townsend of Elnora; six grandchildren, Heath (Jordan) Schultz, Bryan (Krissy) Schultz, Bailey Conklin, Wendy (Ben) Thorsell, Stetson (Courtney) Townsend and Mariah Malone; thirteen great-grandchildren, Dominic, Alaina, Landon, Kailee, Josh, Olivia, Gracie, Finn, Vincent, Quinzel, Maverick, Carter and Emerson; brother, John Booher of Linton; sister, Debby (Jim) Davis of Bloomfield; many nieces and nephews.

Sondra was preceded in death by: her husband, Terry Lee Townsend; her parents; daughter, April Townsend Malone; son, Thomas Lee Townsend; three sisters, Betti Michael, Dixie Rippy and Lisa Miller.

Funeral services honoring the wonderful, loving life of Sondra will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Pastor Debbie Payne officiating. Sondra will be laid to rest in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, east of Newberry.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, November 22 and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.

For those who wish, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to help with Sondra’s funeral expenses. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
