Jerry L. Kemp, 89, of Loogootee, passed away at 12:31 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

He was born December 2, 1929 in Velpen, Indiana to the late Claud Winfield and Lois Cecil (Corn) Kemp.

Jerry married Betty (Tempel) Kemp on May 16, 1953 and she survives.

He was a former coach and teacher at Ireland, Dale and Loogootee High Schools. He retired from NSWC Crane after many years of employment as a mathematical statistician. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was the former co-owner of Dog’n Suds Drive In in Loogootee. He was a past member of the Loogootee Senior Citizen Housing Board and the Loogootee High School Scholarship selection committee.

Jerry loved playing golf, playing cards and water skiing. He was an avid baseball fan and was a catcher for summer league baseball teams. He enjoyed watching Indiana University and Purdue University basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Lois Kemp and infant brother, Billy Kemp.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 ½ years, Betty Kemp of Loogootee; children, Jerry D. Kemp of Carmel, Terry L. Kemp of Bloomington, Sheila Kemp of Carmel and Gayla (Phil) Arvin of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Zachary Arvin and Lindsay Arvin; brother, David L. (Myra) Kemp; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry.
