Marilyn “Sue” McAtee, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at The Villages of Oak Ridge, in Washington.

Sue was born July 19, 1939 in Washington to Albert E. and Helen M. (Showalter) Heffernan. She was a 1957 graduate of Montgomery High School. She obtained her nursing degree from St. Mary’s Nursing School in 1960. Sue was a loving and caring nurse for 50 years at Daviess Community Hospital, where she worked as an emergency room supervisor and house supervisor. During that time she helped save many lives and made many life-long friends. Sue’s special interests and hobbies include quilting, playing the piano, collecting antiques, knitting and crocheting and reading.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William E. “Bill” McAtee. Together they shared three sons: Craig E. (Leanne) McAtee of Missouri, Michael L. (Kim) McAtee of Washington and Randall J. McAtee of Washington. They have nine grandchildren: Colton, Garrett, Kate, Stanton, Bousche, Jan Michael, Claire, Jeffrey and Andrew and eight great-grandchildren: Noah, Kayden, Bentley, Hunter, Harlyn, Havenn, Hudson, and Hugh. Also surviving are two sister, Debbie Heffernan of Montgomery and Lynn Wilhelm of Greenwood and a brother, Bernie (Stacie) Heffernan of Indianapolis. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Frances G. (Joe) Bassler and two brothers, Albert C. (Rhonda) Heffernan and Mark E. Heffernan.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Ed Lee Mortuary Downtown Chapel and again on Friday from 9:00 am to 10:15 am at Ed Lee Mortuary Downtown Chapel. The rosary will be said Thursday at 7:00 pm followed by a Nursing Honor Guard service at 7:15 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Friday with Father Sudhakar Bhastati officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
