Blast of winter in the fall

winter-weather-advisory

Some early winter weather happening today. There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect 4pm today to 8-am tomorrow.

The National Weather Service saying rain today will change to snow with an inch or two accumulation possible in grassy and elevated areas.

That’s Meterologist Mike Ryan in Indianapolis.

The amount of snow will depend on ground and pavement temperatures . Flash freezing on roads is a concern especially around sunset into the evening as temperatures fall rapidly below the freezing mark.  Evening, overnight and the morning commute tomorrow may be hampered by ice.

Temperatures are going to fall and winds will pick up gusting up to 30 miles an hour.    Temperatures will get down to the freezing mark by about 5 today and continue to fall. The actual overnight low is expected to be 14 but with the winds it will feel like it’s below 0.

With the first snow of the season expected this week. The Indiana Department of Transportation says they’ve been working double time to get ready.

        That’s Mallory Duncan with INDOT,

She advises you take extra special care on the roads not just because they are going to be slick but also to give snowplow drivers the space they need to do their job.

She also advised to be mindful of the flash freezing that could occur tonight especially on bridges and overpasses.
