City Council looks at ordinances

ordinance-2

The Washington City Council on Monday approved an ordinance that allows the Building Commissioner to approve certain setback variances for lots in the older part of town which do not conform to current lot size standards.   The Board of Zoning Appeals has routinely approved the requests. The new ordinance will streamline the process for property owners wanting to build in these undersized lots.

An ordinance vacating an undeveloped alley in the SE 11th Street area was given a first reading.   A public hearing will be held before the next Council meeting.

In other action, the Council approved a transfer of funds in the Transit Department and Street Department budgets.  The Street Department is using the transfer to pay for sealer for cracks in the streets.  The Transit Department used the funds to pay a part-time bus driver.

The Board of Works and Safety officially accepted Technology Drive as a City Street.  The new street provides access to M&C Tech and the cross dock building on the city’s east side.

Mayor Joe Wellman reminded everyone that the next Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, since the regular meeting date falls on Veterans Day.
