Elfriede M. Jones, 90, passed away at 7:04 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital.
She was born August 5, 1929 in Munich, Germany to the late Maximilian Mayer and Centa (Proll) Mayer Heindle. She married Russell E. Jones on January 17, 1953 and he preceded her in death on May 16, 2012.
She received her GED from Odon High School and worked at the Crane Post Office for 20 years before retiring as Postmaster in 1990. She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bramble, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed painting, dancing and spending time with her beloved family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Ludwig “Wiggi” Mayer.
She is survived by her sons, Bradley (Ellen) Jones of Shelby, NC, Robert (Karen) Jones of Marion and Bruce (Michelle) Jones of Loogootee; grandchildren, Amber Earle, John Jones, Chadwick Jones, Kimberly Jones, Morgan Imad and Mia Shaw; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Gerda Frank of Cham Bavarian Forest, Germany; nieces & nephews, Manuela Frank, Angelika Frank, Helmet Frank, Jr., Marcus Mayer, Susanne Diener & Michael Meier.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday October 15, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M until the time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Parish for St. Joseph Cemetery Fund, Friends of Loogootee Library or Martin County Humane Society.
