Business owners are invited to a meeting tonight on the Business 50 utility and roadway improvement project.

The meeting is described as a coordination meeting and officials say  business owner participation and attendance can assist the design team to ensure that impacts to businesses are minimized as much as possible.

Improvements are planned along 2.83 miles of Business 50 from Southwest 11th to Tony Jones Drive.  The city says if you don’t own the building you occupy and operate out of your are encouraged to invite the owner or landlord.

The proposed improvements will be constructed through a series of smaller projects that are currently under development. These projects are as follows:

  •         East End Roadway Resurfacing-State Street to Lt. Tony Jones Drive

  •         West End Utility Replacements-Maysville Road to Southeast 3rd.

  •         West End Roadway Rehabilitation-Southwest 11th to Southeast 3rd

  •          Reconstruction of Business 50 from Southeast 3rd to State Street

  •          Utility Replacements from Southeast 3rd to State Street

Preliminary details of each project, including the scope of the work, schedule, potential maintenance of traffic schemes and financing will be presented.  After the presentations the project representatives will be available to answer questions and take comments.

The meeting is at 6:30 tonight at the East Side Park Community Building.

If you can’t attend tonight you can contact VS Engineering Project Manager Nick Jahn at 812-401-0303 or email nrjahn@vsengineering.com.  A meeting for the general public and residents is planned for October and additional meetings will be held throughout the duration of the project.
