(NETWORK INDIANA)  You’ll be able to place bets on sports at three of Indiana’s casinos, beginning Sept. 1, the first day sports betting becomes legal in the state. Two more casinos will start taking bets Sept. 4, said Sara Tait, executive director of the Indiana Gaming Commission, following a Wednesday meeting.

“Indiana Grand, Ameristar and Hollywood are all authorized to go live Sept. 1,” said Tait. “And then Horshoe Hammond is authorized on the fourth of September and French Lick is authorized Sept. 6.”

Tait said the five casinos had demonstrated that are in complete compliance with 18 regulations, for the protection of customers and themselves. Tait described the commissions approach as “measured”, and said it was modeled after what other states that allow sports betting are doing.

She said every casino in Indiana had filed a request to provide sports betting, except Majestic Star in Gary, which is relocating. That plan was also approved at Wednesday’s meeting. Tait anticipates that all other casinos will have their launch dates approved soon, and that the hang-ups are only minor.

“They had to have all of their software tested and certified. They also needed to provide us with surveillance plans, internal house controls. They needed to file license applications for people who are going to work there,” said Tait. “Many of them were hiring and training new staff, as well as building and constructing new sports lounges, so they’ve had a lot of work to do.

Tait described some of the rules, which are listed on the Commission’s website.

“We have…limited colleges to Division One sports. We have also prohibited in-play player proposition bets for college athletes,” said Tait.

She said you’ll be able to bet on sports from IndyCar races to professional darts, a list that starts with most of what other states are offering. The list is also on the Gaming Commission website, with it being described as “living”, meaning it can change, as long as the sports meet the requirements of the Commission.
