Mary Ellen Purcell, 81 passed away at 7:40 am on August 17, 2019 at Colonial Assisted living in Vincennes. Mary was born on September 25, 1937 in Daviess County, the daughter of Nelson A. and Doris Marie (Bradfield) Veale. She married Robert Keith Purcell on July 19, 1959 and he preceded her in death on November 9, 1984.
Mary was a 1955 graduate of Petersburg High School, a member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church and Gamma Tau Sorority. She had worked for Midwest Telephone in Petersburg from 1955-1964 and at Daviess-Martin R.E.M.C. from 1964 until her retirement in 2000.
Survivors include her beloved family, son Keith Purcell and his wife Stephanie of Washington; two granddaughters, Chelsea Michael and her husband Wes of Washington, Alayna Purcell and her fiancée Devon Summers of Washington; two grandsons, Lee and Rob Robinson of Washington; two great granddaughters; two great grandsons and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kathy Robinson; brothers Billy Gene Veale, Charles Veale, Marvin Veale, Kenneth Veale and her sister, Marjorie Veale.
Friend’s may visit with Mary’s family on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State Street. Mary’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Clarence Miller officiating. Mary will be laid to rest in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
