Blake sentenced in 2017 drunk driving fatality

        After a 3 hour sentencing hearing, 27-year-old Colby Blake of Cannelburg was sentenced to almost six years in prison.

        Blake, who was a volunteer firemen was responding to a drunk driving accident on a Friday night in November 2017 along Old 50 west of 800-East in Montgomery.  State Police say he struck three vehicles total when arriving on the scene.  27-year-old Kendall Murphy, also a firefighter had just exited one of those vehicles when he was run over by Blake’s truck.  Murphy died at the scene. 

         In March, Blake pleaded guilty to Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated as part of a plea agreement.  It’s a lesser charge than what he was originally charged with after being arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death and Reckless Driving.

        Several friends and family members of both Murphy and Blake spoke at the hearing.

         Blake received a sentence of over 2000 days totaling almost 6 years.  He was given credit for time served and for time in community corrections.  That credit amounts to a little over a year.
