Chuck Harmon to be remembered this weekend

        Memorial services for Chuck Harmon will be held this Saturday at 11:00  at the Crossroads Church, 3500 Madison Road in Cincinnati.

        Harmon, a Washington native,  was the first African-American to play for the Cincinnati Reds.  Harmon broke in with the Reds in 1954. He played with the team until 1956 when he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. A first baseman/third baseman, Harmon hit .236 with seven home runs and 59 RBIs in his time with the Reds.

         Harmon was a great athlete at Washington High School. He was part of the Hatchets 1941 and 1942 Indiana Basketball Championships. He was the tenth of twelve children. The Washington Little League program is named in his honor and he was the Grand Marshall of the Washington Bicentennial Parade in 2016.

         Harmon was 94 years old when he died March 19th of this year.
