The Washington Community School Board had a short agenda for an equally short meeting Thursday evening.   The Board received the resignations of elementary teachers Erica Taber and Susannah Julian, Jr High art teacher, Michael Miller, and elementary aide Brittany Ireland.    The Board approved hiring Debra Goodman and Jessica Medina as elementary teachers, Mary Tomasso Montecalvo as Junior High Art teacher, Nikki Andrews and Heidi Graber as elementary aides, and Carlene Roark and Regina Martin as bus drivers.   The Board also approved a long list of ECA positions.

Washington’s school bus drivers received a raise.  The Board voted to increase the daily rate by 6 dollars; added 15 cents to the rate paid for additional miles, and increased the pay for ECA bus drivers to $15 per hour.

Washington’s students riding buses will be safer this year.  All buses are equipped with stop arm cameras to deter motorist from passing stopped buses.  In addition, Transportation Director Corey Bouchie has reconfigured bus routes so that students will not have to cross highways or roads.

School Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach reminded everyone that on-line registration for the 2019-2020 school year will begin July 23.     Schools will be open for in-person registration from 1-7 pm July 23, and from 9 am -4 pm on July 24.  Teachers will report on August 6, and the first day for students will be August 7.   Elementary open houses will be held from 6:30-7:30 pm, also on the 7th.
