It’s Marriage Equality Day in Loogootee

The city of Loogootee designated today as Marriage Equality Day.  Mayor Noel Harty drafted a proclamation last week.

The Washington Times Herald reported this week that after Tim and Tracy Brown-Salsman became the first same-sex marriage performed in Martin County five years ago today that they approached the Mayor suggesting today be named Marriage Equality Day.   When asked about the idea, the paper quotes Mayor Harty saying his delay was a result of his dilemma of figuring out how to best love, respect and support his community a whole.  After great consideration and with great hope that all be as gracious as the local LGBTQ communities have been, Harty decided to call today Marriage Equality Day in his city.
