The countdown is on now to get a referendum on the November ballot concerning a Washington Community School Building Project.

Last night a 2nd public hearing was held concerning a 34 million dollar building to house 5th through 8th grade with plans for a multipurpose field house and football field.  The Washington Times Herald reports  there was no opposition from the public at last night’s hearing.

Under state statue, the project has to be voted on by Washington School patrons.   To get a referendum placed on the municipal election ballot, 500 signatures are needed in support of putting the referendum on the ballot.  School Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach explained to those at the hearing that due to constraints, the signatures are needed by Thursday this week.

Petitions will be available starting tomorrow (WED 6/26) at the school corporation office from 8:30 to 3:30 and at Griffith Elementary and the Junior High from 8:30 to 6-pm.
