(NETWORK INDIANA) Indiana is nearly pot locked with all four surrounding states having some sort of law or rules in place that legalize marijuana.
Recreational and medical pot are both legal in Michigan. Medical pot is legal in Illinois and recreational use is nearly legal, a bill doing just that just needs a signature from their governor.
Medical pot is legal in Ohio. In Kentucky, the Louisville city council has passed an ordinance making pot a “low priority offense” for the city’s police department to enforce.
Here in Indiana all forms of marijuana are illegal. But CBD Oil, which is derived from hemp, is legal. With all these neighboring state’s rolling back restrictions on pot there are many questions about how the state plans to keep itself “weed-free.”
“We have the best state police force in the country,” said Gov. Eric Holcomb. “I may be a little biased when I say that, but by every indicator that we measure, they are just that, and they’ll continue to do their job and they’ll do it with distinction, regardless of policy changes that I think prematurely have been made in states surrounding us.”
“We’re not going to do anything different,” State Police Sgt. John Perrine said. “We don’t have any specific task force or plans. Our plan is simple: We’re going to continue to enforce laws the same way we have done so in the past and that is marijuana in the state of Indiana continues to be illegal.”
Perrine said if you buy marijuana legally in one of these four surrounding states you should not bring it back to Indiana.
