It’s primary election day as cities across the state are voting for who they want to represent them in city government for the next four years starting in the new decade come January 2020.

It’s the primary which means voters vote by party. Republicans in Washington have lots to choose from.  The most watched is a three person Mayor race.  All three are looking to succeed Republican Joe Wellman who is not seeking re-election.

Diana Snyder, runs the county’s community corrections program.  She says deciding to run was something she didn’t not take lightly…

District 3 City Councilman Jerry Sidebottom is also running as a Republican for Mayor.  He says he wants to a be a quote “…voice for the people…”

Current Building Commissioner and former Police Officer Don Williams is also on the Republican ballot for Mayor.  He says he’s qualified because of all of his city work experience…

The winner of the GOP Mayoral Primary will face Washington Fire Chief Dave Rhoads.  Rhoads is running for Mayor for the Democrats and is unopposed in today’s primary.

For the 2 Council At Large Seats, two Republicans and two Democrats are running.  Republican David Dahl is challenged by Ken Showalter.  Democrat Blake Chambers is not running.   Democrats Ernie Evans and Ron Critchlow are vying for the 2nd At Large Position.  All four will automatically move on to the fall ballot. Then the voters will choose two of the four for the two seats.
