The Indiana Department of Transportation announces intermittent lane restrictions on U.S. 50 in Knox County and State Road 56 in Pike County this week.

Beginning on or around Friday March, 8, motorists should expect delays on S.R. 56 in Pike County and U.S. 50 in Knox County as contractor perform coring operations. Some operations are already under way in Knox County as of Wednesday March 6. During these operations, lanes will be restricted intermittently along these routes in short sections.

Coring is the process of drilling out a sample of pavement for testing of its viability. This information allows INDOT to determine the condition of not only the road surface, but also the sub-grade beneath. Using this data, INDOT is able to identify remedies for pavement issues and determine the extent of work that needs to be done in future projects.

Contractors expect work on both routes to last until March 15. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.
