Burtis M. Gaither, 97, of Cannelburg, passed away at 10:53 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2019 at The Villages at Oakridge.
She was born February 4, 1922 in Loogootee, Indiana to the late Paul and Laura (Huebner) Fuhrman.
Burtis married Commander Don Gaither March 21, 1943 and he preceded her in death on September 18, 1983.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burtis enjoyed spending time in the garden and taking care of flowers. She cherished the memories made while raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Burtis was preceded in death by her husband, Commander Don Gaither; parents, Paul and Laura (Huebner) Fuhrman; siblings, Carl (Wilma) Fuhrman, Clarence Fuhrman and Pauline (Alpha) Walton; brother-in-law, Bobby Buchta.
She is survived by her children, Jill Gaither Hansen of Indianapolis, Ann (Ron) Gaither Hamilton of Bloomfield and Paul (Kathy) Gaither of Cannelburg; grandchildren, Kristi Hoffman, Beth Goss, Cheryl Gibbs and Travis Gaither; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Buchta of Loogootee; sister-in-law, Beulah Fuhrman of Loogootee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Blake & Wagler Funeral Home in Montgomery. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Washington.
